Through a comprehensive and diverse curriculum, you’ll gain insight on how to evaluate and best assist individuals across a variety of ages and disorders. Coursework provides the foundation for graduate study in speech-language pathology and audiology. Beginning in the fall of 2024, this degree will be available completely online in addition to face-to-face instruction; there is also an online second-degree option for students changing careers.
For those working on their first bachelor’s degree, students can choose the on-campus program or the fully online program. Students who apply for the fully online program are admitted as pre-CSD online and will need to complete the application-to-major process, as detailed on this page. For those who have already earned a bachelor’s degree and are transitioning to the field of CSD, there is a post-baccalaureate program that can be completed in-person or online. Please apply for this program as a second-degree seeking student.

Skill-building facilities. The Communication and Sciences Disorders department provides valuable clinical training experience while using some of the industry's latest technology. Our highly-equipped, on-campus lab includes 16 therapy rooms with direct observation facilities, two group treatment spaces, an assistive technology lab, and mobile speech, voice, and audiology equipment. Here you’ll work directly with clients of the Chippewa Valley community, boosting your confidence and building skills that will benefit you in your future career.
Instructional internships. The chance to explore teaching and positions within an academic setting is available to all communication sciences and disorders students, thanks to the department's innovative instructional internships program. This unique opportunity allows you to learn about course development and implementation; explore teaching, paraprofessional and classroom aid career paths; and build on your existing industry knowledge.
Unique learning opportunities. The annual Chippewa Valley Aphasia Camp connects you directly with members of the community who have aphasia, a communication disorder caused by brain damage. Working closely with Mayo Clinic Health System, you'll gain incredible insight through the learn-by-doing mentality of the camp while fostering impactful relationships. Many graduates have described this experience as being a highlight of their university career.
Connection to local employers. An annual Nursing & Health Care Professional Fair will further connect you to a variety of employers, including hospitals, clinics, community agencies and schools. This fair is specifically for those looking to enter the healthcare field. The event is an excellent opportunity to make connections and submit your resume for current and future job openings.

- Each spring and summer, pre-CSD online students will receive information about applying to the online major.
- Complete the eform, which requires a degree audit and short written essay
Admissions Requirements
In order to be considered for admission to the online CSD undergraduate program, an applicant must have:
- Been accepted as a pre-CSD online student at the university
- Must be in good standing at the time of application
- Completed the university writing requirement
- Completed CSD 150 with a grade of C or above
- Completed or in-progress CSD 235 & IDIS 235
- Earned an overall GPA of 2.5
- Submitted the application eform and attached a recent degree audit
The CSD department uses a holistic admissions process. This means that grades earned in all course work will be used to make admissions decisions. In addition to grades, the admissions committee will use information gathered through class participation in the CSD courses to support demonstration of adequate online learning skills and appropriate dispositional skills essential for success in this major. A faculty committee will make admissions decisions and notify all applicants before fall registration begins.
The department may find it necessary to deny admission to a qualified applicant because of enrollment limits in the upper division online CSD courses. Depending on the number of applicants, it is likely that the GPA required to be competitive for admission may be well above the 2.5 minimum GPA. Meeting the minimum standards does not guarantee a student will be admitted to the major. Resources allow admission of approximately 25 students each year.
